I used to know how to dress. I had a job in the city and I had to wear a suit. Simple. Job done. Fast forward ten years and I’d got married, had two kids and was walking around in jogging bottoms and a greying t-shirt with weetabix in my hair (from the kids). Simple. Job done. Fast forward further still, to the present day, and my two boys are now teenagers, I’ve hit 50, launched a creative digital agency, and now, suddenly, I’m not quite as confident about what to wear on the days when I’m not at home, (still often in jogging bottoms and greying t-shirt, although I’ve cut back on the weetabix/hair combo – mostly). I still really love clothes and keep my eye on the trends etc. but I’m just not quite sure if different rules apply now that I’m in my fifties.
So I looked around for inspiration. Only to find that a woman over 50 is pretty much forgotten in fashion, beauty and the press… it turns out, we’re represented as the age group of elasticated waists, tena ladies and waterfall cardigans. Fuck that, I thought, I may have lost my fashion mojo a tad, but I know that’s not where I am, so I decided to write something myself.
However, I’ve been coming up with reasons for ages about why I shouldn’t write it…the world does not need another fashion blog, I haven’t got the time, I hate taking pictures of myself, the list goes on. But in the end, I just couldn’t not write it anymore.
So this blog is about me navigating my way through my 50’s, focusing on my wardrobe hits and misses. I intend to post outfits, write about brands and test out beauty products too. I hope you like it.
