Spring 2023 Fashion Trends

Thought I’d do a quick round-up of the trends out there along with my key buys. Nom I’m not saying you should follow any trends, but if you were considering making a purchase, there is something here for everyone, in fact, I liked quite a lot of the trends this season. Plus it’s always nice to pick a couple of things to update your wardrobe.

Tailoring

There were loads of images of clean lines, trouser suits and neutral palettes, think Basic Instinct. If memory serves, Sharon Stone only wore neutral colours throughout the whole movie, please correct me if I’m wrong.

Key buys

Boden Fluid Tailored Trouser Suit – Blazer £190, Waistcoat £85, Wide Leg Trousers £120

Fuck me, I love this. If I was to pick a uniform a la Steve Jobs, this would be it. Boden has kind of gone off the boil for me in recent years, but effing hell, they have brought their “A” game for this outfit. It’s selling out fast in the cream, but it also comes in a sort of burnt coral colour which is still available and less likely to show spillages.

Colour

Looking through all the images, there seemed to me to be a couple of colours that were featured the most. Lime green, red, white, and beige (again with the Basic Instinct theme). I already have loads of red, and beige (and when I get my hands on the above trouser suit I’ll have even more), but I am lacking in the lime green stakes.

Key buys

& Other Stories Ruched Midi Dress was £85 now £55

This sold out in my size as I was typing this. Slaps forehead. Note to self: Buy the dress and then type about it.

Marks & Spencer Bright Red Trouser Suit, trousers £45, blazer £59

Toteme Gathered Crepe Midi Dress was £450 now £275

Fabric

I should probably give this section a clever name, like grown-up grunge or something, but I fear it wouldn’t sound like me. What I want to highlight is that there were loads of metallic, denim, biker, crochet, sheer fabrics and blurry patterns (there is probably a much better name for this too, but you’ll know what I mean when you see it).

Key buys (metallic)

16Arlington strapless duchesse-satin maxi dress £1,195

One other thing I need to say at this point is that there were loads of strapless dresses shown on the catwalks too, so this dress also ticks that box. Don’t say I’m not economical. That said, I’ll probably swerve the strapless trend, too many bra/underarm fat minefields for me to get my head around.

Frame Le Sylviein Silver Chrome £375

Key Buys (Denim)

Rixo Maxine Denim Skirt £220

If you buy one thing this season, make it a denim midi skirt. This is my personal favourite.

Key Buys (blurry)

Zara Printed Tulle Dress £29.99

It’s not quite tye dye, it’s just sort of blurry.

Key Buys (Crochet)

Zara Crochet Knit Dress £35.99

Key Buys (Sheer)

& Other Stories Pearl Embellished Sheer Top was £85 now £45

Key Buys (Biker)

Allsaints Balfern Faux Biker Jacket £219

Biker jackets are useful for about two minutes every season, but for those two minutes, they are bang on.

Slightly out there trends

Trains on dresses, baby doll dresses and bras on show – these were some of the more extreme trends that I spotted. I’ve ruled out trains and baby doll dresses for me personally on the grounds that they would get caught in doors on tubes and taxis and therefore could be a bit of a hazard for mere mortals such as myself. I ruled out bras on show, largely because I don’t rate my tummy. Obviously, it’s a personal choice and if you feel comfortable showing your tummy then crack on.

Next time I’m going to look at shoe/accessories trends – there was some cool stuff as it goes. ballet & barre flats, ma- hus-ive bags, corsages and dead dangly earrings (another health hazard).

Let me know what if anything you’re thinking of buying and if you spotted Sharon Stone wearing anything other than beige in Basic Instinct.
