The big really, important thing that’s occupying my mind this week is an outfit conundrum. This week I’m off to my first networking session in over a year, or maybe two. I’m not a massive fan of networking (I’m suddenly back in the school ground feeling like a misfit), but I’m going with a chatty friend, so hopefully it will be easier. I have no idea what to wear though. Like, none. I am ok at putting together casual stuff these days (lots of practise) and I’m pretty good at putting together “going out out” outfit, but outfits that look smart, are comfortable and that you can trot round the underground in – not so much. Also, due to the sodding pandemic, the event is outside, so I’ll need layers too.
Every outfit I think of, has an issue. Not warm enough, not smart enough, not comfortable enough. Feeling some of Goldilocks’ pain here. The outfits below are the contenders. I can make these outfits, or something very similar, from my current wardrobe.
Don’t know which of these ladies to be. At the minute, leather skirt lady, or pink shirt lady are my favourites. I’ll keep you posted.
Moving on to other things I’ve been up to this past week. Glass Glow from Kevyn Aucoin. I got a tester for these from somewhere the other week and I loved them. They come in a few shades, so a highlighter, blusher and a bronzer/contourer colour. I went for the spectrum bronze, but I loved the highlighter too. It’s like a gel going on, but doesn’t feel sticky once you’re wearing it. I’m going to use this for contouring (which is probably untrendy by now), because it felt like the first time that the colour didn’t make my face look dirty. It could also be that I’m rubbish at putting make up on, but lets not dwell. It just looked like I had cheekbones. Which I don’t. Would highly recommend.

Next up, some cheap and cheerful sandals from Asda. Yes, Asda. Usually I find with ankle strap sandals that the buckle moves round and rubs my ankle bone and rubs all the skin off. Not these bad boys. You can’t see from this photo, but the back strap is one piece of leather with the buckle attached, so it can’t move. Which equals no skinless ankles. I know they’re not dead posh, but they’d be genius on holiday, because they’re just so comfy. Apparently holidays will be a thing this year. Anyway, check them out, they come in a pale gold too, but understandably they’re selling out like cheap sandals on the run up to summer.

Another skin miracle for you. A few years ago, hyaluronic acid became like the buzz phrase in skincare. Turns out, it’s another thing we lose from our skin when we age. Deep joy. Along with collagen and elastin and a few other bits and pieces. Anyway, the timing of hyaluronic acid becoming a buzz phrase, also sort of coincided with the launch of The Ordinary, which you’ve probably heard of. It’s a great brand, and cheap as chips too, as long as you know what each of the products do, you’re laughing. I’ve tried quite a few of their products, all of which have been great, but this is the one that I keep coming back to. It sort of gives you your dewy glow back. Although, if I was being pedantic and technical about it, the molecules of this serum are too big to be absorbed into the skin, so you don’t actually replace your lost hyaluronic acid, but it does hold up to 1,000 times its weight in water, which keeps your skin lubricated and dewy looking. All the beauty brands have a hyaluronic offering these days, but The Ordinary is the best value for money in my opinion. Put in on under your moisturiser.

Finally, a bit of a controversial purchase for you. I actually bought this glasses chain with black skulls for a friends’ birthday recently. She uses them quite a lot because she’s always climbing mountains and abseiling and white water rafting and other mad stuff, so she uses a glasses chain quite a lot, because glasses are prone to falling off when you’re canyoning. Which I get, I’m happy to sign off on a glasses chain for a sporty chica, but otherwise, no. Antwacky alarms going off all over the place.
Until I saw it, and I sort of fell in love with it a little bit. You know when you hand something over, but sort of keep your grip on it – that was me with the glasses chain.
Also, glasses chains are long overdue a make over. I reckon they will have a fashion rebrand in the next year or so, and everyone will want one. You heard it here first #grannychic.

Have a good week and I’ll let you know what outfit I choose, who knows I may even post a picture. Roll on next week when we can do things indoors once more. Giddy dance.
