I’ve been banging on about this post for weeks, so here it is. As ever with the catwalk trends, there was loads of weird and wonderful stuff that rarely reflects what we actually wear. There were also clothes that will filter down to the high street and into our online shopping baskets. Let’s have a look at the items I think we’ll be wearing.
First up..
Pretty dresses – This is possibly a reaction to wearing trackies for a whole year. I think a lot of people will be setting fire to their trackies on March 29th and will then spend the rest of the year wafting round in evening gowns, high heels and full make up. I am one of them. Below are some of the dresses that will facilitate that plan.
Hush Poppy Tea Dress £99
Zara Knit Midi Dress £29.99
Kitri Juliette Cotton Shirred Dress £165 (there is literally like 1 left)
Label Mix/Fabienne Chapot Blue Fia Dress £195
Pink, Tangerine and Mint Green are set to be the colours of spring/summer. Which I’ve also very efficiently covered in the pretty dresses section. Mostly.
Tanks/ Vest tops. I definitely mentioned these last spring too. I bought one then as well. I really fancy this stripy number. I have a bit of a thing about my arms. There is definitely some bingo wingness about them. However. I still get them out, because I figure that on my deathbed I won’t be thinking “I wish I got my arms out less”. Life’s too short.
Top tip – it seems to me that arms have a tendency to look at their worst when you wave them about. Should I find myself in a position where I absolutely have to wave at someone, I just do a salute thing instead. Arms move a lot less. Plus it looks cooler. You’re welcome.
COS fitted vest top £12
Cos striped V neck vest was £59 now £29.50
Monki Cable Knit Vest £20
Zara Knitted Waistcoat £25.99
Bra tops. Ok, I probably won’t be wearing one of these. It’s not about whether it’s age appropriate. It’s got nothing to do with age at all as far as I’m concerned. If you feel good in it, crack on. The deathbed rule applies here too. Nobody ever said “I wish I’d have got my stomach/boobs/legs out less”. For me my concern is when I sit down. There could well be rolls. Lots of rolls. I don’t like that as a look. Personally. This bra top combo is again from COS and it seems to be in every magazine I open at the minute. I do heart it though. It looks especially ace with the trouser suit. You never know, I may buy it yet. Or possibly something a bigger.
COS Knitted bra £35
COS Ribbed cardigan £69
Trench coats. You have to park the fact that there are like two days a year when wearing a trench coat is a viable possibility. There are so many lovely options out there at the minute. You could always put lots of layers on underneath. Also, they do tend to smarten an outfit and I like the idea of feeling smart again.
Mango oversize water repellent trench £89.99
La Redoute Long Draping Trench was £85 now £55.25
ASOS DESIGN Longline trench in stone £58.00
Arket Oversized Trench Coat £175
Accessories. I already mentioned mercado bags. So I’m putting a tick next to that trend. Clogs. I bloody love clogs. I already own two pairs. You can wear them with thick socks/tights plus denim skirt now and then bare legged with pretty much anything in the summer. Warning – they hurt if you fall off them.
Penelope Chilvers low horse bit clog £159
Penelope Chilvers mid suede clog £169
Oh and finally. Gladiator Sandals I hated these when I first saw them, but I’m warming to them now.
Russell & Bromley San Fran Sandal £175
& Other Stories Chunky Leather Gladiator Sandal £85 (selling out really fast)
These are my picks/predictions for what we could wear when we’re eventually allowed out again. I may well do a round up of the best of the rest next week.
I’ve kept the potentially antwacky scarf/cardie thing btw. I had a play with it, and I can report that it is easy to make it into cardies, scarves etc. I’ll keep you posted on whether I actually ever put it on.
Have a good week. Weather is set to be scorchio and can see people again as of Monday *giddy dance*
